Room Refresh – A Sneaky Peak Behind The Scenes

Rejuvenate your child’s bedroom few easy steps. What do you know about Dulux?

Most of us know that they do paint and colour, but what you may not know is that Dulux is part of the biggest surface coatings and paint company in the world. They design colours for 80 markets, in 26 countries. They have a dedicated aesthetics centre in Amsterdam, that tracks market trends to choose and create the colours that are perfect for interior designers all over the world. Their expertise is to help people create homes that suit their needs in today’s world.

So what is the mood of the moment? According to Helen van Gent, Creative Director at the Global Aesthetic Centre, 2019 is all about “letting the light in”.

Keeping up-to-date with the latest home trends doesn’t mean a complete overhaul. Simple updates can completely transform a space. By giving you a sneak peek behind the scenes of the latest Little Folks Furniture (LFF) photo shoot, we thought we’d show you how a simple colour change can easily rejuvenate a tired space.

Superior Classic Bunk Bed Beech

Dulux’s colour of the year, is Spiced Honey – and we just love it! Inspired by the tones of natural honey, it is warm, sophisticated and elegant.

This colour has different qualities. It can be nourishing, it can be calming, it can be cosy or vibrant, depending on what palette you decide to pair it with.

Spiced honey is a great gender neutral colour for sharing siblings and provides the perfect backdrop for our Solid Beech Bunk Bed. Fiona, (stylist at LFF) pulled together a great new look for this bestseller, using some of the tones from Dulux’s Love palette combined with Mustard which is also a key colour in interiors this year. She designed a lush, rich palette where the colour of the year turns into a more amber tone to provide you with a more welcoming space.

Ever wondered how Fi creates these wining looks for our kids’ beds? Here’s her 5-step approach:

1. It all starts with a mood board and sketches! Fiona researches and pulls together a unique look.

2. Then Fi gets to the fun part, which involves sourcing all of the props and bedding, to make the shoot happen.
For this set of photos she selected a fun, irregular spot print bedding design, which she accessorised with a range of tonal coloured cushions in various mustard, caramel and rust hues.

3. The next step requires prepping the photography studio.
Martin, the LFF set builder prepares the set using Fiona’s brief as a guide. This set required painting the top 2/3 of the wall in Spiced Honey by Dulux, with the bottom third in matt black for a more contemporary feel.

4. Et voila! The set is then ready for the product. Que the focal point – Superior Classic Bunk Bed, Pure White by Little Folks.

5. It takes around 6 hours to create a series of photos for just one product, including the set up time. Things like lighting and getting the right angle for showing the product off to best effect, can sometimes be tricky at first.

Here are some of the behind the scenes snaps of the final set. It was important to ensure that the solid beech details of the bunk bed were captured, as well as the cut out handles featured on the add-on Underbed Trundle plus the bunk bed divided down into two single beds and a day bed. Phew! Not bad going for 6 hours work.
