Carddies Review – Card People To Colour And Go

Any toy that encourages imagination, story telling or small world play is worthy of attention, and a product which has come on our radar ticks all the boxes in being a resource which could easily be used in the classroom or at home. Carddies are a set of hand-drawn characters and settings, which also come with character stands and colouring pencils, to allow children to personalise their characters as they see fit. Carddies are exclusive to NEST in South Africa. The various sets are featured in the Arts and Crafts section on our website. UKEdChat are a UK website aimed at teachers and educators, they have tried a set of Carddies out and this is what they think…

“…we explored the School Set and got busy colouring in. Patience and attention is needed for this part and some work is required before you are ready to play. The thick card should survive the test of time and use, but the potential of Carddies in the Early Years or Primary Classroom is clear to see, in regards to the story-telling opportunities. We set up a scene, took a few photos with the iPad, and created a cartoon strip using the Comic Life iPad app  (click here to view on the Apple App Store) Each character is pre-cut and ready for the colouring process, front and back!

In their opinion…

“These Carddies sets could easily be a great resource in the early years and primary classrooms, with the different themes allowing for a diverse array of storytelling opportunities. Adding the use of simple technology, stories can be developed, supporting language and literacy skills or used as a teaching aide so teachers create their own stories”
